Orchids have always appeared mysterious and been the object of intrigue and curiosity of people for centuries – in fact it’s argued they go all the way back to the dinosaurs!
Ancient cultures believed magical cures for all sorts of ills could be made from the roots and the ancient Chinese were one of the first people to use orchids as medicine. Some of the earliest paintings of orchids can be found on the oldest of Chinese vases.
As its name suggests, Passion4Orchids shares that intrigue and photographer Michael Morris has displayed a unique talent for capturing the beauty of orchidaceae, the largest family of flowering plants.
There are said to be 30,000 varieties of orchid, plus a further 70,000 hybrids or cultures, with the great majority being found in Asia and South America.
Michael hasn’t managed to photograph them all – yet, but the orchids he has managed to capture on camera truly reflect the tremendous beauty, mystery and romance that only this bloom can.
